Are house parties normally free?

I found a website in the US.
People are advertising groups that you apply to join and if accepted they tell you when and where they are hosting a party.
But, I'm wondering if it is real.
One guy claims he has a 3,000 square foot (814 meter) area for the parties. That is not very big. He has no limit on what type of people can attend, couples, single men, etc. He has a DJ. No fee to enter
Another one is in a hotel, no fee to enter. They provide snacks and condoms.
Is this normal?
Somebody is going to host a free party in a hotel, they pay for the room?
Do people normally have free , open to everyone parties?
Do hosts normally pay for hotel rooms and DJ's?
Or is something else going on here?
Also, while some of the groups state they are only for one thing, like couples, others do not.
And, I applied to join several, to see what happens, and there is nothing to fill out, no questions to answer. I assume they will check my profile.
I find it odd, but what do I know?
I have never been to a swing party

I don't know about what they call 'house parties' in the US I can only go on my experience here in the UK. House parties here are generally held in someones home and are by invitation only, to get an invite you need to be known to the host or be known by someone who knows the host and will vouch for you. The host will usually provide snacks, soft drinks and some alcohol but will ask you to bring your own alcohol. Music if any is what ever the host has on the sound system, playing at house parties varies and depends on the hosts, some will tell you where is off limits as far as play goes, staying over, again at the discretion of the host and wether you want a bed or are prepared to sleep on the floor.

What you describe sounds more like what we Brits refer to as 'socials'. A host will hire a venue usually with a bar (not free) Hotel function rooms, pub rooms anywhere that can be seprated from the general public, The DJ at the ones I attended was amateur in as much as the didn't do it for a living but had some experience. While admission was free it was not uncommon for voluntery contributions to be asked for and any excess would go to charity, though some hosts would sometimes pocket this for themselves. Again admission was invite only and at the hosts discretion, though you didn't need to neccarily be known to the host you needed to have some track record on the swinging scene. The after party, as most of the guest will have travelled some distance they would book into a near by hotel and this is where most of the real fun happened.

Socials at swingers clubs, this is something that to my reckoning started about 10 yrs ago. The plus side of this is playrooms and club facilities are available to all attending, down sides it's not free admission charges apply and sometimes membership is required, some will allow you in as a guest. Also you will be sharing the club with regulars, not that is a bad thing.

I called them house parties.
They didn't give them a name.
I understand knowing the host or getting invited, but these seem to be public.
I'm surprised that there are people willing to rent a room and not charge anyone.
It has been my experience that all of those sites are a scam.
If I get accepted to any of them, we will see what happens.
but my guess is they are going to ask for money at some point and the party will never happen

And what do the people without a track record on the swinging scene do?
Everybody has to start somewhere.
Thats the problem isn't it? I'm not too sure about how it works today but back when I was actively participating the first step to creating 'a track record' would be to actively participate on a sites forum allowing members to get some idea of who you are. Forums also had information on when and where the next social would take place (general area ie. Leeds/London etc) and you could request to go on the guest list. Some socials would be more open to inviting newbies along and if the organisers liked what they saw when they checked your forum contributions you where on the guest list. Next would be actually turning up at your first social, it was surprising the number who for whatever reason failed at this point. Okay now you're through the door and face to face with real people time to start talking and provided you don't make a total arse of yourself things should get easier, repeat this a few times, the word tends to spread you are genuine.

At every turn, I'm screwed.
This last site that I just found is the only one I ever saw with a forum , in the US .
I'm still not sure they are real.
When I wasn't getting any responses to my requests to join groups, I paid to join the site and then I got responses. The free part appears to be the bait .
Now, the only ones responding and letting me join have not had any activity for several years.
I have no idea why the group owner is still accepting applications if nobody is talking or meeting.
Oh well, I will keep trying to find a way into this lifestyle.
