So, this is kinda going on the back of a drunken rant (eh, rant? Me? Never!).

It's that time of year again, where the same 6 songs are played in shops, retail workers have to wear a Santa hat, Christmas jumpers are being dusted off, trees and decorations are being pulled from the dark depths of the attic and tinsel is everywhere.

I fucking hate it.
Proper Grinch, me. The older I get, the more I agree with The Grinch and Ebenezer Scrooge.

Perhaps it's my 16+ years of working in retail that's hardened me. The echoes of Mariah Carey and Slade haunt me throughout the season... or maybe because my heart is two sizes too small [literary reference for those of you who has made it this far ;)] - either way I don't enjoy it.

What about you sexy lot?
Christmas - cheer or jeer?

Noise, waste, packaging, pressure to cook the "perfect Christmas dinner", no money, too many people at the shops, tree is in the way, Christmas hats (seriously, wtf?!), overindulgence... need I say more?

Naff all on the telly ;)
You know what, when you go through serious life changes and difficulties - you see things like Christmas as a positive time to spend quality time with people. It doesn’t have to be what you’ve stated above. That’s down to people and their choices. ;)

This is my view of my Christmas’s .... it has been over commercialised for years and years ....
I’m 54 years old now so I’ve seen a few , being single at Christmas isn’t great , I know people say ahh your with family,it’s a happy time of year ....
But from my point of view it’s quite lonely even if your surrounded by people if there isn’t that one person....
I’ll be honest I’ve hand in heart never had that one special person to share Christmas with , yes that’s my fault , my regret that I didn’t do things differently ...
I can’t change the past it’s been and gone but this Christmas I will be at my Brother and Sister in Laws , the kids are now 15 so Uncle isn’t needed anymore to occupy the kids ...
It’s not a secret I don’t enjoy Christmas,if that makes me a Grinch so be it .....

Christmas is what you make of it. If you buy into the commercialism of it then that’s up to you. If you choose to reflect and be thankful for family and friends then so be it too. I don’t feel anyone one of us has the right to cast our personal aspersions on other people’s choices .... sorry for my rant!

Been on both sides of emotions at Xmas time - the very stressful but eventually safe delivery of a baby boy many years ago in time for Xmas.... and the very distressing time of loosing my mum to cancer only a few years ago, a week before Xmas. So I now take the view people should make of their life what they want and really what is going on around - adverts, shopping etc etc etc is so irrelevant ...

That’s it. I see it as a positive thing for many reasons.
I didn’t have a brilliant childhood and it was my wife who made Christmas everything it is for our children. She also made more of a fuss about it with me too. I despised Christmas as it was just all too negative.
So after many years, I genuinely started to appreciate the consideration that is Put into it by my wife. For us all. Do we overindulge? Yes we do... Do we eat a bit too much? Yes. Drink too much? Yep.
But we enjoy all of our time together. For me, for us, it's about us and our children being together and enjoying shared time.
Seeing people show appreciation of the thought you put into their gifts for example.

I'm the world's worse for being a miser, but Christmas is a time where it's about helping friends, family and sharing time together. Yes you can do that too at any point of the year and we do, but this is different.
Like yourself, I have lost both parents over the last year and within a very short space between them too. One was expected to happen, the other totally out of the blue. The year before, my wife lost one of her parents too and their birthday is very close to Christmas so it's hard.
That for me and the fact I have no family at all, means I make Christmas more special for our family now as I appreciate what I have.
I genuinely, genuinely mean this too without being too drama BS type post as well. x
