How did they get in? Is this keyless entry as they seem to be the ones people get into. Make sure the fob is kept well away from the car as the signal can be picked up and boosted to gain entry.
Put key in a tin or wrap in foil or remove battery as a cheap option or buy a protective (faraday cage) bag
yea both were keyless i had gotten my mom one of those protective bags but she seems to have stopped using it, but i was just wondering how common its becoming these days?
The little shits. Sadly there’s big money in it now isn’t there. To a degree there always was, but now cars are more expensive and have more valuables inside them too.

Yes there's a lot of that about UK wide - catalytic converters. It's because of the minerals in them which is why they're so valuable. Blighters.

Yes, they use a relay to pick up the wifi signal and then direct the signal to the car to unlock it.

How long is a piece of string, all depends on signal strength and the type of car but you can buy/make a faraday pouch that resolves it.

What the hell is one of those. I got my keys in the cupboard which is about six ft from the car when it’s in the drive.
