just been reading this on fetlife Child Safety Online: Age Verification for Pornography - Consultations - GOV.UK

could this affect the running of this site wouldnt want it to be suddenly shut down

If i understand this correctly the bill is to require age verification for access to pornographic sites. Not sure what they define as a porno site but it will probably affect most sites if they have images stored on them.
Im sure Admin will have more info but I see no reason why any site should have concerns unless thet knowingly allow minors access.

One thing that has been discussed many times - is age verification. ie- passport/drivers licence/ birth certs etc.
A bit OTT but is likely the way forward fore the Internet and websites.
The bill was discussed last year too IIRC - and many adult based sites in the UK had to consider adding security steps and some digital signatures.
We raised the age here from 18 to 21 and even considered making it 25+.
What this means, is that if enforced we would have to have provide a facility where people would indeed need to prove their age and date of birth.
I'll have to read more into it when I have more free time - but I can honestly say this would probably be hugely beneficial.
If enforced then all adults who wish to access all adult material, would have to do the same across the board, so adding their info here should be no different.

thanks for that know from rerading elswhere that it may lead to problems with forign based sites having to comply with this or face being blocked in the uk . know this is part of the reason for fetlife not accepting new members from the uk atm

I don't think fetlife was accepting new members from anywhere, you now have to be invited by a paying member.

currently that is the case whilst they deal with all the sock puppet accounts etc once they have a better system in place it will only apply to the uk
The problem there is/was, they were becoming overrun with total numpties, not into the scene at all - but looking for a quick shag.
This is why we manage our memberships extremely carefully. We cap when we need to, lift it when we need to and remove idle accounts when we need to.
This keeps a healthy balance of active, friendly, genuine members - though does have the drawback of the numbers game ie numbers may not be extremely high or OTT, but quality over quantity.

I totally agree they site moderation and user base leaves a lot to be desired, In truth I only really keep my profile because I use it to keep in touch with one or two people.

Yes I know what you mean. We have two accounts there. Our personal one and professional site one. Not used them in a long time in all honesty Mr LNF..

Thank you for that.. Thing is, I got so fed up of elsewhere and not enough hands on moderation, I thought I'd do something about it. Nobody can ever say that as admins' and staff, we're not hands on. It's something that I genuinely feel is unique and cherished.

No, would never happen and to be honest with you, comments aimed at BBW and LGBT people in an unsavoury light - wouldn't have been around long on here as they'd be moderated.
It's harder than most realise, but so many sites just don't care and let people get on with it.. Yes we all need juicy gossip, the odd flame here and there or even a spat now and again to keep things healthy - but not abusive or hating on people.
There's enough badness & trouble in the world as it is. This is meant to be fun and spicy fun at that.

The strong moderation here is one of the things I like, it is firm but fair and everyone is approachable

Anyway sorry for rambling.. I will dig deeper into this and find out what's what and where this could lead for us.
The site is not hosted in the UK but we will still be governed by specific laws.
Will do some digging, thanks for the info @heavenNhell (y)
Best wishes.

When we lived in the states they had a similar rule. We had to provide a copy of either a drivers license or a passport with picture which was verified real-time so they only saw it when you verified, no hard copy, emailed docs just come on cam show doc and face and done. it worked in most cases just fine, but at times if not admin/staff were on-line then it did become a hassle. If the goal is to prevent little Timmy from wanking in bed while watching on-line porn I am not sure it will work. those sly fox teens always find a way around things lol

Knowing the Site and the way it has developed, In such a short time, We are confident @Admin will implement any nessesary steps to ensure members and the sites safety xx
Absolutely. You know full well that members safety and the sites' interest is paramount to me, so we will do whatever we can if this scenario is likely to be implemented.:)

Exactly.. This is the main issue; there is always a way.
I can't see this passing mind but still..
That said, I know the access to online porn (by children) has been a thorn in the UK's governments side for a long time.

I havent read all the info but its like trying to stop kids getting hold of fags ..... just get someone else to do it for you. Perhaps more importantly is if I have to prove who I am will that data be kept and if so how secure will that data be.... hackers charter??

This is one of the other issues..
However, as with anything online - nothing at all is guaranteed 100% safe. Lots of things to consider, but that's if this indeed goes ahead/gets implemented.

Yes there is always a risk online as with anything in life you have to accept things can go wrong. Whilst I can understand the reason it seems to be the usual half thought out idea that is highly unlikely to provide the desired results. Im not against the idea as such but its implementation is not going to resolve the problem.

The laws might get passed but personally I don't worry too much about that, I can prove my age and if that helps keep children from some sites they really shouldn't access then I am prepared to give up some of my freedom.
Agreed and rightly so..

I worry more about COOKIES, every site I visit knows I visited this swingers site today, Facebook, my bank, the School your son goes to knows you visit here because we have very little control over cookies, these days you cannot even use a site if you refuse to accept their cookies, they tell you that it is so they can provide a better service to you, and maybe it can, but it can also gather a lot of information you don't want shared with everyone who wants to use it.
Indeed but cookies serve a serious purpose. Added to that, if given that the site is within the EU - as you are no doubt aware, then you should comply with EU cookie law. Not compulsory but detrimental if you do not.
However, without cookies certain aspects of sites could not and would not function. So it's a double edged sword.
The biggest thing here is being Internet savvy and cleaning up after yourself.
