As much as I made a joke of it, I have to agree with you. Other nations traditions and culture should be respected when you are in their country.

When you are in somebody elses house, you need to respect their rules or leave.

Did you know it's illegal to stand on Thai currency because it depicts the head of the monarchy, and in doing so is a huge act of disrespect.
