In my previous work it was my bread and butter (performance management) but I suspect these days I've forgotten more than I can remember

I think you and Lew have much in common with computer and software frustrations...... poor Lew at times it's a bit like watching Basil Fawlty do IT....

Stew, can you do database exporting and importing into a set of new fields and custom metadata?

Not strictly excel, but I have a massive db that needs playing with (oh do behave) to import into a custom site with custom fields.
Just curious...

Not my forte boss, TBH, I can make Excel talk and pretty good on Database but this sounds like it's out of my range ! But it's difficult to say without seeing it!
It's just a few blibs and blobs

Indeed it is.....
I was toying with playing with it in Excel, but this is a huge scale job with a lot of metadata and custom fields.. Far from easy and add on top then that it's encrypted (which I can crack and already have).
okay, thanks anyway I understand that this is a very specific task in honesty.. Just thought I would ask.

Then did the same when I moved to KP/Mcviies, so the size doesn't scare me, it's all about what you want it to look like when it's done
It has to be imported into a massive scaled DB with extended custom metadata fields.
So let's say for example I have the table... salt and vinegar okay?
This table needs to be extracted, imported into a NEW table, named best flavour salt and vinegar.
There's about 30+ different tables and over 40k pieces of information in metadata alone.

Fantastic work! Bravo..

Should be able to use vlookup for that...providing the source data's compatible with Excel.

Not in the slightest mate just trying to say that Vlookup etc won't work on stuff like metadata etc certainly meant no offence just read how complex the scenario is on Admins posts
Nah you're not being told @MickeyBlueBalls genuinely now my friend. But @Stew is right. As much as a good suggestion Vlookup is, it won't really help in so much as exporting tables then reassigning the data within those tables, into a new system.

I'll be honest, this is a monster job and I either need to write/find some sort of import script to do it, or graft and manually extract each set of metadata and then import it into each table one by one.
Not an easy job..
Anyway I genuinely don't think it was meant to be offensive..
