... who had never been to a club before what one or two piece of advice would you give?
Realise that this will vary as to whether the newbie is a single or a couple.

Us?
We’d paint them a picture of the real variety of people they’d find in a club and to try not to be worried about body shape or size because everything and anything goes. We had preconceived ideas that it would all be the media construct beautiful slender people but found so much more.

Ok only based on experience.

1, Think long and hard about going to a club and do your homework, if all the club reviews come from the same people attending only one specific club then poke about a bit more and be prepared for individual club mafias that won’t say a bad word about the place. If you listen to these then you may be disappointed at what you may see for yourself.

2, I have always said. Treat a club night like any night out to a pub or vanilla night club, get dressed up, plume those feathers and mingle with others that you can see are new. Relax and enjoy like you would on any other night out. Don’t expect anything! Like @Jaynerobert have mentioned, don’t think it will be all about super models, you will see people of all shapes and sizes.

Think you've pretty much nailed it. I would add to just relax, everyone there once went for the first time and I'd expect were just as nervous. Also they are there for as much as the same reason, so relax, enjoy the atmosphere, and think of it like a night or bar, with a few less clothes.

Oh, for the record, my previous response was if I was going with or talking about it with a woman.

If I was talking about it with a guy my response would be "don't be a dick". Go in, relax, don't expect to walk in and be able to fuck anyone you want, treat it a bit like a bar, get chatting to folks, build up the rapport and you may be lucky. Above everything, just be a gent and mingle.
