Have you folks ever done anything that really turned out not to be what you thought it would be.

We went to a wedding in Staffordshire yesterday. I know the venue cost over £4000 for the afternoon and evening to hire. The place was set in miles of hills and farm land and was lovely inside and out.
The wedding food was pizza and ice cream for gods sake. Not even a drink was to be had. Stayed 2 hours and sacked it and went for a meal.

Visited the mella Indian festival the other weekend. Not been for a while and it used to be huge with lots of different good stalls selling all different Indian food.
Alas it was tiny, the food that was there was ok apart from a chippy van selling yur usual food you can find on any street corner.
Over all very disappointing over previous years, Edinburgh, you must do better.xx

Yes we had the same experience at The Oulton Hall Lodge/Hotel. The venue cost thousands for the sister in law and the food was £38 a head.
They brought out a huge hog roast, teacakes, apple sauce and stuffing and I was literally served a fecking Pork Sandwich. I ended up sending the kids to the kids section cos they had, nuggets, pizza, burgers and chips

Maybe they don't like their families so took the piss out of everyone... Something I might do for a laugh if I had a spare few thousand hanging around

Had a few dates I wish I'd missed. Went to a party only to find the hosts were one of those fundamentalist religious groups... no alcohol.

We went to 'The Sex Maniacs Ball' back in 2015. It was touted as all about inclusive sexuality and trying out new thibgs, and took over the whole Fire club for the night. Sounded great, and we spent the whole month before talking it through and working ourselves up to fever pitch.
Then we went and, to cut a long story short, there were too few people in too big a venue and it just ended up really lame (apart from the lapdancers, but they left at midnight), so we went back to our hotel and made our own entertainment.
Mind you it worked out allright: we joined the swinging community a couple of days after and the rest, as they say, is history.

[Footnote. It looks like the Ball is back this year with a new venue and, if it does what it says on the tin, it should be pretty good ;) ]

We went to a Michelin Star French Restaurant for our first anniversay, I knew where we were going as @Admin knew I needed to wear the correct clothing so a surprise would never work.. (it's a woman thing) :D
So I choose a simple black frock with good shoes and bag, his nibs in a suit :sneaky:
We get to this restaurant which looks cute from the outside, we are greeted and shown to our seats which is in a room no bigger than my living room, I would say there were about 6 tables in total but very plush and cosy with soft candles for lighting...
When we look around every other couple in there are wearing jeans :palm:
We start with snails which were good, followed by lamb and steak, now when you picture a nice steak you think sizzling with mushrooms and chips right?
Nope this was a small mouth size portion with a tablespoon of mash and a dribble of sauce around the plate (very pretty though) The lamb presented the same way.
We drank fine wine and a bottle of champagne, very nice it was too
Now the bill  £400
I must add the drinks were working and we were enjoying but we were starving :D
So we walk out of there, look at each other and both say, fancy going to get something to eat?
That is what we did, went to a steak house and ordered gammon egg and chips for twenty quid

Not always the case though. I booked a romantic weekend away with an ex. Was a Michelin star chef so expected small pretty meals but have to say small and modern as they were after 7 courses we were full. The penthouse sweet in the hotel (old Scotish stately home) but that was two nights, two meals (both different and as good) £360 10 years ago agreed.
As for a meal let down... a curry on the curry mile in Birminham. Had better in town. Never wanted to go back.

To lower the tone, no Michelin chefs or fancy hotels but Krispy Kreme doughnuts quite literally have no texture or taste, seriously the doughnuts you buy from the supermarket for five for a quid are a hundred times better.
