In less than 2 weeks I'll be celebrating my 65th birthday. Like most at this age, I'm being bombarded by telephone calls, e-mails and letters about pensions and mobility aids!

I run a successful business with my son, and employ 21 people. That keeps me busy during the week. At weekends I help out at The Vanilla Alternative as part of the team. Throughout the whole week I enjoy mixing with others enjoying this lifestyle online.

My wife passed away several years ago so I live alone and am master of my own destiny.

The question now is RETIREMENT. Do you think I should retire from (A) Work (B) Swinging ?

Looking forward to hearing your views.

I think if you feel you are able to continue working and enjoy it...then carry on. If you hate it or feel you want more time for yourself then retire hun.
As for the swinging....do you enjoy it. If you do then why stop. If its not giving you enjoyment anymore then find a new hobby sweet.
Wish you well whatever you decide xxx

If you enjoy what you do carry on. It's just a number and doesn't mean you have to hang up your spurs....
Keep going till you've had enough :0))

Just do what feels right! Age is a state of mind not just a number. We have both retired, G from being with a big organisation, R from being self-employed, and are both enjoying the new freedom it gives (although it does take bit of adjustment). But we have no intention of giving up swinging, we'll keep going as long as we're still enjoying it.

One of our friends (a bit older than us) has recently decided she doesn't want to swing any more, but doesn't mind her husband swinging. He's suddenly a single man and is finding it hard to get female play partners.

It sounds like you are only considering retiring because that's what your expected to do! Don't give up work unless you really want to and never give up swinging!
I agree with this. Sounds like you need to conform because it's expected.

We've met you several times now and I'd never say you were coming up to 65 in all honesty.
You're young at heart, fit, healthy and active.
You stop doing the things you want to do, when you're ready to. And not before my friend. (y)

Why retire if you are happy. If you love what you are doing then carry on. The question you really need to ask is what would you do if you did retire.
I had the option to retire a few years ago and took it because I had got to a point where I no longer enjoyed the work but as I also got a good payout and full pension 7 years early it was a simple decision because I already had plenty of other things I wanted to do. Too many retire with no plans in place and then get bored, less active and hide away.
I believe you would have already looked into this but you could work a 4 day week for example then you get the benefits of both retirement and work. Whatever you do @Steed99 good luck my friend.

Well, 24 hours on and great comments from some dear friends. Having met most of you personally, I know how sincere your words are and thank you very much. This is what this wonderful website is all about, nice people socialising online but also, when the opportunity arises, meeting to cement that friendship.

For those of you that may have missed it elsewhere, here is the link to my theme tune, the title of which @Admin has incorporated into my profile here. Hope it brings a smile to your face.

Hmmm. That didn't work quite as expected. You'll need to go to page 2 and scroll down unless @Admin can amend my link.

Fixed for you my friend. ;) :)
And you are welcome. You're a young spirited person and don't stop running around, this keeps you fit and agile. It's not you to put you feet up and rest on those laurels.
;)

Some great comments and thanks again for all that have contributed. Still 10 days to go before the big birthday, so whilst the mind and body are still talking to each other I'm off to Milf Club Friday at The Vanilla Alternative tonight.

Shut the feck up!
Live life

Work keeps you on your toes and fit in the mind.. swinging keeps you sharp, fit and usually off your toes..
If you are lucky.

Retirement is a gateway to death!

So the big day looms tomorrow. Shall have to sleep on the decision. Again, many thanks for all your kind words.
Not one to ever disagree with anyone's posts.. but I do disagree. You are a fun living person who has energy levels that put some people to shame.
As Miss VV says, if you love it, why give up?
That includes work as well as this lifestyle. :)

Firstly since its 04:35.
Happy Birthday Sir.
Retire from swinging i assume? who are you trying to convince you or us?
Only you can decide huni.. you.
Go with your gut instinct.. do whats right for you. Maybe cut your hours?
I do believe, you will miss it.. what will you do? how will you fill the void?
You are a social butterfly.. your a people person.
I have had these thoughts often, and do believe next year, will be our last around the scene.. life has taken an unavoidable turn.
But you are on the other end of the spectrum.. you come hand in hand with the VA.
But don't be swayed do whats right for you...
I will say this though.. hardly your typical.. bus pass collector are you. ;)
Good luck lovely.. may/may not see you soon ;) xx

Well, the big day is here. 65 years!

I feel the question of my retirement has been a bit like Brexit. Fortunately, just like Supreme Court Judges, many of you have confirmed my view that I should carry on and until I feel differently, that is exactly what I will do, both in the day job and with swinging. Thank you all for your support.

I see @SexyTatts has pre-emptied my decision by adding me to the attendance list for Social Swinging's 2nd birthday party at The Vanilla Alternative next March. Well done sir!

Many happy returns today sir.
Given the voice of confidence from your friends on SS how could you consider retirement.
Have a brilliant day :0))
