A general querie for all members, newbies or longtime alike. This site has operating costs, should we as members contribute? Would you be happy to pay a subscription for member privelledges or should it be free for everyone? How much is a fair subscription?

Both? She did nowt. She slept through the whole thing .

Yes I didn't know where best to place the thread tbh. I chose public thinking it would allow anyone to vote. Also maybe we should change the votes to anonymous to encourage more people to vote?

I'm not sure how much but I think a subscription should cost, but a lower amount would hopefully foster a larger subscriber base

£5 is fair... Less does not cover the costs... However.... Other sites ask for £5 too but it is for a longer period than 30 days... Necessary if you want to keep messages...
Be careful of your competition with the member base you have..

Hello!

i'm still catching up with all the thread, but in general a subscription system *could* work for existing users, however in my opinion a subscription system for newbies would alienate alot of people before they even sign up thus then in turn limiting the scope of existing users to meet new people.

I'd be interested in knowing what 'perks' you would get, paid vs. a free subscription - as its hard to imagine a free system that would allow users to get enough from the site (ie. see couples, message them, upload photos) but also leave enough to 'push' people to upgrade.

In terms of overheads, etc. I run a plethora of websites and could potentially support you with limiting your costs for servers, bandwidths, etc.

Eamonn.

Message pruning doesn't happen here (well after 2 years maybe ) and it would be 31 day cycles, (or even longer if wanted but then get a discount)..
Yes of course, but we're at the point where something has to happen. xx

Hi @Lebexsex.

This is just an impartial poll on what us members think an upgraded subscription should cost of if there should be a cost at all. The votes are anonymous and can be cast at the top of the thread.

Indeed this is correct, so please just take the time to let us know. This is a member based discussion and choice. We're just looking for feedback. x

No we use dedicated servers for the site. But thank you for the offer of help. It's not just server hosting that we have costs for.. The overheads are significantly bigger than just hosting.

There is no immediate sign up where people have to join and pay or that's that. The idea is in principle what people have now: platinum and then the supporter accounts. You still have full functionality but one has more allowances than the other.

At all - this is discussed in the main thread found here;
Membership Upgrades.

This topic is a discussion started by @Baldricknkaz as mentioned :

Ah well that makes sense in terms of platinum and supporter accounts and is definitely a better route to go down.

And not to overstep or be pedantic but what other overheads contribute to a "community lead" forum other than hosting, as there's no products, shipping, VAT, transaction processing, etc. that would normally significantly affect a online "business".

Hi, there's a significant amount but with due respect, here is not the place to discuss it really.
To allow some insight, we have things such as Google, Apple for example and more. Plus there is transaction processing which is hefty.. let alone expensive server management systems we use for both dedicated servers.

Hi fellow members.

I think the key points to remember are:-

1. This is a poll in which we get a chance to tell the staff if we would pay for an upgraded subscription and how much we think it should be.

2. The site does have operating costs.

3. (And this is the most important so correct me or delete as appropriate @Admin if I get this wrong), the upgraded membership is rewarding but entirely voluntary and you can still have a free basic membership for as long as you like.
Newbies can come along browse the site and interact for an unlimited time and the option to upgrade will be there for them when they are ready.

I really hope I'm not overstepping my bounds in my attempt to clarify.

Agreed, this is precisely what it is and I do believe people are getting the wrong idea. This is not a black and white = you upgrade or lose site access and functionality.
This is you have an account and you upgrade, entirely voluntarily, if you wish to have additional capacity and storage etc.
I genuinely think that because people haven't ready fully what we've said - they're putting 2&2 together and not getting the right conclusions.
To reiterate;

This is not a black and white = you upgrade or lose site access and functionality.
This is you have an account and you upgrade, entirely voluntarily, if you wish to have additional capacity and storage etc.

I will also copy this on the other thread so people do have an idea. Many thanks x

Absolutely! Oh I know... it's been over two years and you have asked me almost every month - haven't you done it yet.. two years of your nagging. Poor Turkey Boy. I have an understanding now!
But yes time does fly and you've always been supportive of that, I have to say. x

But yes we are at the point where the options of having a voluntary upgrade are back in place instead of that contributions thread.!
All we're doing is replacing that, where we tag people - Donations with an automated system making it easier for people really. x
