Hi guys, I'd be interested to know the views of this site's lovely members - so who believes in fate/destiny?

I know a lot of people are scared by the fact that what happens in their life, or what will happen, is already pre-determined. The feeling that they are not control of where their life goes, or that any decision they make was already pre-defined.

I for one am a big believer, and it has actually help me rationalise a number of difficult/painful experiences in my life, and whilst I cant explain why certain things have happened, I take solace in the fact that it was 'meant to be', and that in the longer term, it was in my best interest.

In a way, I think it has its similarities to religion (without the having to believe in one being bit) and helps us mere mortals make sense of things, which I think is very important for a peaceful mind

It still doesnt explain why i havent won the lottery but hey ho :(

So who is a believer?

We too are great believers in fate. Like many others we at times have felt that we have had more than our share of difficult times. If we didn't believe that you get your lot in life and have to deal with it and move on, then we probably would not be as close a couple as we are. In fact it was one such difficult time that put us in the direction of swinging so it's not all bad!:)

No I don't. The things that have happened in my life were the result of the decisions I made or actions I took. I have a fairly logical approach to life, kind of "If-Then-Do"

That may seem to be a cold, short reply but I enjoy my life, I have a sense of humour (warped some may say), I simply don't believe if fate/destiny.

thats cool Looby&Lew, and great to hear the good stories as a result.

Therapon - is it not possible that whilst you made a decision, that it was already pre-determined that you were always going to make that decision anyway.

I agree with you in part. I don't think that because I believe in fate that can I can abdicate responsibility for making poor decisions. However I do believe that there is an element of things that you can't possibly have control over. X

I believe in fate and karma. Completely!
Partly because it helps me move on with life. Live in the now not the past or future.
Also this means that when the bad stuff happens it gives us strength to continue and not feed the negativity.
Fate meant that I met my amazing partner 3 years ago. Who accepts me for me.

Totally agree - very much believe in Karma myself.
It's a great way to relieve yourself of the stress/anger when people wrong you and trust they will get what they deserve.
And I have had good small things go my way recently, not massive but things that meant a lot, and I believe it's a 'thank you' for the way i try and consider others and look to do good deeds.

If I accept that then it means I have no control over my life at all so it would really be a pre-written script. If that is true then fate and destiny cannot exist. :) Great converstaion to have in the pub, anyone want a beer

Interesting chat I agree with loobys comments earlier in the thread bad decisions will be bad decisions.
Sometimes however whatever decisions you make will have no impact on the external influences that act upon your life these can be considered karma if you will especially if no one else caused or wished for them to happen these are the challenges we face through life what we chose to call them is down to our own believes
