Hello Sexy Peeps :sneaky:
As per title - Would you use a standalone version of FB messenger to receive content here?
By which I mean so we can use their App technology and push content to your smartphones?
This mainly applies to iOS - Android we can hook into and do. iOS devices we can't for now and would need to use the FB messenger App to send you info.

It does not require FB but you would need to actually download the App itself.
All we'd need is an email address.

Would you use it?

Thanks all

okay basically ignore the API thing.
I will amend that...
But what this will enable us to do is;
Bring out a fully fledged App for the site which you can D/L on iTunes/Google Play.
The App can then send push notifications to the phone and also then display the site within the App and chat and cams and everything else we use.
So the soul purpose is to bring out a fully fledged working App for the site, with push notifications (alerts) native to it.
I think it could be worth doing but am aware of concerns regarding using the FB standalone App.

To make it clear; the FB standalone App will not be using FB at all, we're only using it to send alerts - like we do now on the App but through Google Firebase.
But you'd need it and the App if on iOS devices until mid-next year when some changes come out allowing more development.
Hope this helps all. x

I think use the word device rather than phone D/L = Down load, it would be a good idea and your right not to use Face Book as we like to keep it personal ... well that may thoughts x

Agreed, and it's definitely not to use FB itself - but more to help deliver push notifications to your mobile phone from here.
Apple (iOS) users mostly this will affect until mid-next year if so.. Android devices etc aren't affected so would be able to use the proposed App or even just notifications - without downloading the FB messenger App. :)

I voted no but I will explain why.

1. I no longer use Facebook or Messenger. The damn thing drove me up the wall.

2. I loathe push notifications. I always turn them off. I've got my hands in live 415 volt machinery and the bloody phone makes me jump by pinging/vibrating all the time.

This is just me though. I'm sure many members would love to have this feature (y)

We used to offer it previously by using Pushover - which is a push notifications system, but I dropped it some time ago.
Maybe I should have re-worded this to - would you use FB messenger if you want to restore push notifications here..

Aye be careful up there, don't want you getting zapped now do we! I have a story about that, already posted somewhere.. Epic :D
Okay thanks both! x

Probably
As long as it does not have the spy/privacy issues as FB..
Would it need access to contacts, albums etc on the phone?

Not that I understand anything about this

No, it wouldn't require access any of these but it would be required for this to run, on iOS devices until next year when iOS (iPhones etc) would be natively supported. xx

This is true! But it's only for alerts (push notifications) to your phone if Apple. If you're using Android, as you are, then you won't need it.

Does everyone get what this is about and why we'd seek to using the messenger app etc? It's purely to send push alerts (notifications) to your phone.
We do have another way of doing that right now, but it depends on how many of you would use it.

As a mod then it's not something I need but if I were a standard site member then yes I would use it to save having to manualy check all the time.
