The internet is great, the information superhighway, the great democracy - but what are the things on the 'net that really hack you off?

OK internet, I love you but... those endless feckin quizzes to discover which Hogwarts house you would get into, which Star Trek captain you are, what Victorian job you would do, what is your spirit animal etc. etc. and on and on. They divide into two types, as well; the ones that are obviously asking which option you'd prefer, then give it to you (so that you can post it on Facebook, saying "I always knew!") or they go on for hours and give you a perplexing result with no explanation.

I'm sorry... There are other things on the net but porn and music? I'm not sure i follow?

Sheople. It's created a 30 second attention span. If people have to look, listen or read beyond 30 seconds they switch off and ultimately don't find the truth. They believe the populace rather than the facts.

Agreed. Have you tried buying cheddar, lately? Choices melt my brain

I choose to ignore such choices. I work in a print factory manufacturing among many other things wine labels... and ffs the rubbish written on them wtf... All you need is RED or WHITE and how strong! But now its all money to have 957 different types of coffee, cheese and whatever else you can think of lol

Two things that piss me off online

1. The internet has doomed us all and is a dangerous thing people, who choose Facebook to spears this message just :palm:

2. The 'it's only online not the real world' bullcrap people sprout to explain bad behaviour.

I love you tube I'm a you tube junkie and steam to play some games I'm currently addicted to steam it's only a few weeks ago I remembered creating the account a year ago and hadn't used it lol. Social media sites like Facebook and Instagram etc have killed the art of conversation, and wtf is twitter about seems to be the place to write messages to yourself most of the time.

Yep i have to agree with @Admin the pc brigade. Seems to be we have no freedom of speech these days for fear of upsetting or offending. We cant parent our kids the way we want for fear of being labelled as an abuser. Its silly and social media doesnt help this. X

Ah yes the Internet. I need to think about how to limit my rant to:
A. Make it relevant
B. Make it truthful
C. To the point and not a ramble
D. Be polite
E. Keep it to less than 10k words
F. Think about what I'm posting

I will come back to this once I've managed all the above. I may be a while.

Have to say I disagree with the whole “ah, the bloody PC brigade”; I genuinely wonder what people want to say that they can’t say now.

Almost all the “political correctness gone mad” stories are either urban myths or just flat out made up. “Winterval instead of Christmas”? Never happened. “Blackboard” - it stopped being that the moment slate was replaced by roller-boards or wipe-boards.

“Political correctness is based on the idea that people have a right not to be offended.” No, it isn’t. I can still call someone an arsehole. What people can no longer say is “you’re an arsehole because you’re [member of a religious group, sexual preference, etc.].It’s not using gratuitously offensive terms, is all.

What’s now called political correctness and derided was, when I was a kid, called courtesy. And yeah, I have no problem at all with people being treated equally.

(Yeah, I suspect that this one will get some “disagrees”. That’s cool. Feel free.)

Gets a healthy disagree from me. ;)
T'was myself who initially mentioned about the PC brigade and here's a few to look at. If you read the news, as I am very sure you do, you will see that it's slowly becoming OTT and more PC now than ever - with almost everything.
Here's merely a few recent examples; (the list of so many issues, is simply too big to list here.)
Army students told to use gender-neutral words instead of 'mankind' | Metro News

‘March of PC NONSENSE’: Military chiefs order troops to use gender-neutral language

Scottish Government gives go-ahead for gender neutral school uniforms

Don't want to identify your sex? Well cool beans, you soon won't need to;
'Political correctness gone mad'- MPs hit out at proposal to remove 'sex' question in next census

Anyone hear what poor old Lewis Hamilton did the other day - and the response to it all?
I was aghast at the sheer public outcry and bashing he got, even from antibullying campaign groups. Sorry but wtf is wrong with these people...
So being PC, by your post, is not using gratuitously offensive terms?
I definitely disagree with you saying it's courtesy. Sorry, that's a completely different tangent and take on being PC.

Yep, couldn’t disagree more with that.

As for Hamilton, he got everything he deserved. A small boy is obviously having a blast wearing his chosen outfit. He wanted it. And Hamilton pisses all over it, and sticks the video online of him doing so.

As for the “military ordered to use”, the story itself says that the language is encouraged. No orders. No penalties for not using it.

Gosh - the papers using a headline that doesn’t reflect the story? That never happens...

Here’s something on political correctness myths: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/528.302387-Clearing-Up-Political-Correctness-Myths

Now, the act of posting the video deserved a smack agreed, but since when did a phrase that he used, deserve such an outrageous attack? That’s complete OTT PC for you.
Re the military - it shows what the higher beings are thinking. It’s not so much nor just equality. It’s being shit scared to say the wrong thing to someone in case you hurt their feelings because of whatever reason and they then take you to the cleaners for it.
Am all, quite obviously, one for equality. But when a boy or girl shouldn’t be called a boy or girl such as in schools - then that is a slice of exactly what is wrong with this country and Western societies.

So, not austerity, then? Not Trump? Not 127,000 children homeless in the UK? Not disabled people being forced back to work? Not hard-working people going without a pay rise for seven years?

It's the boy/girl thing?

Since when has thinking about having respect for people's views/beliefs/points of view been what's wrong with this country?

On the list of things that are wrong with this country and western societies, sorry but I think giving consideration to others’ feelings is so far down the list, it’s a footnote on page 293.
