There's lots of info dotted about, or just ask questions, plenty of folks about who can answer and willing to help.

One thing to remember, your alerts will stop if you get one for a thread and don't view it. Images - when you post a comment, someone else does; you will get the alerts.
You can easily get caught up with it all and lose it just as quickly. Really, activity is what works best. If you keep active, your alerts will always be fresh and current for you. x
