No, it comes from the Dutch Sinterklaas, a character based on St. Nicholas, who is the patron Saint of children (and, weirdly, repentant thieves)

I tend to call the devourer of milk and mince pies 'Santa'...but i think that's mainly because the kiddies are so young still xx
