Junk food diet leaves teenager blind and deaf

Eating nothing but chips, crisps and white bread for years, a teenager is left blind and deaf.

Okay, I don't have kids. I don't want them, but come on! Why aren't the parents parenting?!

Seriously, "he's a fussy eater" is not an excuse! I'm not a nutritionist, buy even I know that vitamins and minerals are vital for health.

I bet the parents will blame the government for not informing the public about junk food o_O

No excuse for it what so ever.
It infuriates me that in this day and age this is happening. This boy blames texture on fresh fruit from primary age, at that age he could have tried fruit and veg in different foods with other textures. If ours couldn’t eat something then we would disguise it in foods so they got the nutrients. Little things like adding veg to burgers by using a blender, we add different veg to spag Bol by blending veg, they have no idea.
100% parents are to blame by being lazy here and giving him what he wants.
This is no different from a little boy rescued from vegan parents who gave him this diet from a baby, he was under weight and lacking in vitamins, the parents had no idea what they were doing and didn’t see anything wrong until he was hospitalised  mindless x

Personally I think that the poor diet of of many people in Britain is one of the biggest public health issues there currently is, but rather than addressing things properly governments have gone down gimmicky useless cul-de-sac solutions.
I also think poor childhood nutrition should be seen as a child protection issue and social services should be involved.

I agree more should be done. I once had a ding dong with a social worker at a presentation about internet security (Mr A was hosting) she happened to mention that it’s ok to give her children her mobile phone to keep them occupied whilst she did what she was doing. Now if that where social services is then what would she feed her kids? Probably microwave chips and nuggets.
Nutrition is so important for development. I agree more should be done to protect children but saying that, have you seen the crap they serve in schools?
It’s a losing battle.

There is no excuse in this day and age to feed your kids constantly on junk food, if they don't like veg blend it down into foods so they don't know it's there. It is not good parenting to constantly feed children especially really young children high fat, salt and sugar diets. Once in a while is fine but not everyday.

You got it. We blend five different veg in our stews, spag Bol that the kids don’t think they like, they love the dish. We are lucky that they’ve been brought up with no processed foods. We don’t own a microwave and my freezer contains peas and ice ;) the rest is food we freeze from cooking. Not me :D It’s crazy how this child has ended up tbh and no excuse for it.
Good to see you both ;)

Good to see you too both and that's excellent it's a good way to enter nutrients into a child's diet I wish the parents I have had to deal with over the years would do this.

Some just don’t want to listen. It’s sad the way the fast food culture is going, we have discount super markets now with very cheap fruit and veg so there is no excuse.
Hope you’re both well ;)xx
