Welcome to you both… we’re a friendly crowd here… and in answer to your later question, about just taking part in the forums and replying to any questions with helpful information, that’s pretty much how it works, yes.

Definitely the right place for that, but that’s not all the place is for.
But if you’re looking to meet people and have some fun, then yep… subject to the usual preferences, locality and availability stuff, yes.
Be open about what you’re looking for on your profile, which you are… and see what other people are looking for. Keep an eye on the ‘meets’ board.
And ask for clubs which hold theme/preference nights. There’s a load of institutional knowledge (people with long experience of the scene); rare that you can’t find out what you need to know.
