You could start by adding some info about yourself to your profile, consider adding some photo's as well. Get involved in the forums so that others get an idea of who you are, what you like or dislike. Although none are being run at present keep an eye on the First-saturday-social-meet-ups thread.
There really is no definitive answer to your question, just be yourself, be polite and if you find someone you think you might like you can always ask them if they would like to chat
Finally don't give up and remember you need to put the effort in or nothing will happen.
