I am new to all of this. I’m single but interested in tipping my toe in the water.
A friend has said I’d be a unicorn, as I’m happy to play with both sexes. That was news to me!
So, for those of you more experienced than I am, are unicorns really a rarity?
Obviously this is all theoretical at the moment, but I’m interested in people’s experiences!

In my experience (last few years, post marriage) socialising, attending music festivals, etc .... it's prity common ..... & very common is certain county's !! ? ...... Maybe I've just been going to the right or wrong places !! ??
However, saying that, I have no real experience within a swinging enviroment / meet / club !! ?‍♀️ ......... Not sure this helps ? ??

Yes this is true. Though we personally only liaise with single ladies, we’ve no kind of thought about the term unicorn. But yes, a single lady who is in this “scene” is classed as so because you’re so hard to come across, maybe I should say find. X
I jump into the post to understand exactly what unicorn means in the UK swinging scene. Single ladies? Let me know, please, so I'll be able to write my opinion.
Unicorn in UK Swinging literally does equate to a single lady who’s happy to meet with a couple. ???

I can only talk about Italian situation, so before I thought that single ladies on the scene were rare, but I got I was wrong. Actually they are fewer than couples and single gents, but I'm in touch with a few even though I prefer couples because a single lady reminds me of normal life. Anyway, I found out that several single ladies are part of a couple who decided to play in this way.
Besides, they usually look for playmates on swinger website to have fun with single man or couple and join private party, but rarely join club.

From one unicorn to another, we hide in the magical rainbow forest and frolic among the buttercups.

Rare, yes. But we are around :)

The name "Unicorn" being used is a bit of a mis-nomer really. In truth, if you go to any swingers gathering, be it an organised Social, a party, or a club, a fairly sizable majority of the ladies, (both single and in couples) will be bi-curious, or bisexual.
Single bi females are neither rare, or hard to "interact" with.....if you dont treat them like some sort of trophy piece to be hunted.
We have never played with a "Unicorn", or even a "single bi female"...however, we HAVE played with lots (and I mean LOTS!) of our friends, who, it just so happens, are female, single, and bi. Re-read that sentence, and you should figure out why we have the success that we do.

For single ladies, its a great filter to weed out those who are just "ticking a box"... if they are more interested in your "rarety value" than in getting to know "you", then its a possibility that they may be on a bit of a "trophy hunt"...give them a swerve and wait for someone who values you as more than just a trophy piece.
