Do you follow accounts you have a genuine interest in? To perhaps chat more intimately / privately?
Social interaction ie through alerts and notifications etc?
Simply they’ve caught your eye and you want to get to know them better perhaps? X

I follow accounts of those I am interested in. It is a good way to get to know other members. When it comes to private messages I am more reserved than on the forums so tend not to send them unless I receive any or I have something to say in private. I am unsure to be honest if you should just follow someone or is the correct etiquette to ask first. I think maybe asking is the polite way. ?

Aha you raise a valid point that has come up many times - following etiquette and whether one should ask first, or simply follow.
I can’t recall by whom or when, but a thread about the same was brought up and was quite popular. Is it the right thing to do? Ask first then follow or just follow anyway.

Anyway for us it’s a multiple reason thing. We either have a direct interest in you, want interaction or in general find you interesting and are open for chatting etc.

Yes they’ll get an alert that you followed. When you follow people, you’re presented with some options of what alerts you’d like to receive. Status updates, new media, threads and posts etc. Also, if it’s reciprocated you can create private albums to share too. X

i find it the last usually i read and see something that catches my eye and i ask so i cna get to knowthem better
