We had an interesting encounter with a scammer last year when we bought a new Epson printer. One of our PC's could not access it even though it was clearly shared on the network to the other 3 PC's and various other devices. Baffled us completely so we thought why not call Epson tech support and find out if they had come across this particular problem before.
The person we talked to had the usual waffle about installing drivers which of course we had already done and then went on to say they would connect us to their tech support. After a few minutes wait we got to some guy who didn't even pretend to know anything about networked printers he pretty much immediately wanted to connect directly to the computer. Out of interest, we let him while all the time we were trying to explain it was a windows networking problem we wanted to sort out, but no, this fella pulled up the running services and tried to convince us that all the disabled ones had been caused by a rootkit and wanted us to install his special software to sort it out.

I know a little about Windows services and manual and automatic services and what this twat tried to convince me was a complete load of old balls.
Once he realised he was talking to a pair of old geeks he got very abusive to the point of telling us to "Piss off you fucks"
Bear in mind we got there through the genuine Epson support line

Stay aware folks ?
