I’ve listened to a few & had the thought of doing one myself, I think the best are when you have a few people bouncing ideas off each other

I'd love to do one where people are interviewed like the thread where Skippy01 was asking people questions, or just get people talking about their experiences like the blogs. The trouble is you don't sound , in a recording, as you imagine you would.

Your voice sounds like it would be perfect for audio books and not at all squeaky like Pasquali! On the other hand I sound far more nasal than I'd like and not the booming Brian Blessed I hear in my head ?

I listen to loads, but they’re very much ‘my interest’ ones, so US based news, the craft of comedy, history (I’l recommend The History Of Rome to anyone I can) and odd-quirky ones like Tim Harford’s Cautionary Tales and 50 Things That Made The Modern Economy.

There’s also one about swinging - swings and roundabouts - that I occasionally used to listen to but haven’t for ages.

Oh, as for appearing? I’ve been asked once or twice to appear on one or another, and thought best not to.

I listen to loads, but they’re very much ‘my interest’ ones, so US based news, the craft of comedy, history (I’l recommend The History Of Rome to anyone I can) and odd-quirky ones like Tim Harford’s Cautionary Tales and 50 Things That Made The Modern Economy.

There’s also one about swinging - swings and roundabouts - that I occasionally used to listen to but haven’t for ages.

I might look some of them up but I am wondering about the US news. Obviously, I have no idea if you're from the US originally I'm just a little intrigued.

No, not from the US… originally or overwise, though I’ve visited and have close friends who live in various states.

But, for my sins, when I did my A-levels, one of them was on comparative political systems. So we learned how to compare and contrast not the policies or parties, but the systems of government. And thanks to a brilliant tutor, I got completely hooked on US news and politics.

Bearing in mind the period (Watergate was a decade past: too recent to be in the history books, too far away to be ‘current’… so perfect for study) it hooked me and never let go.

And I’ve been fascinated ever since. It’s rare I go to bed without watching a bit of MSNBC before heading bedwards.

I’m especially fascinated by their Supreme Court. Currently re-reading The Brethren by one of the fellas who reported on Watergate and another writer. Covers the 1969-1976 period, and, for someone like me, it’s catnip.

I had a similar experience with a physics teacher when I was young. It's funny how these things stay with you. The rest of my so called knowledge has just stuck in through the years by reading an awful lot of very different things.

I *love* Cautionary Tales!!

Tim Harford’s great; and Cauitionary Tales being that bit longer than 50 Things really helps. He’s done a few livestreams publicising the data book, and they’re all worth watching. I know he’s doing one with Robin Ince soon, which’s definitely be worth watching.

But I’m a sucker for someone who can explain difficult subjects well, and in plain English. the comedy group Festival of the Spoken Nerd (Helen Arney, Matt Parker and Steve Mould) is one of my favourites for that reason.
