I might look some of them up but I am wondering about the US news. Obviously, I have no idea if you're from the US originally I'm just a little intrigued.

No, not from the US… originally or overwise, though I’ve visited and have close friends who live in various states.
But, for my sins, when I did my A-levels, one of them was on comparative political systems. So we learned how to compare and contrast
not the policies or parties, but the
systems of government. And thanks to a brilliant tutor, I got completely hooked on US news and politics.
Bearing in mind the period (Watergate was a decade past: too recent to be in the history books, too far away to be ‘current’… so perfect for study) it hooked me and never let go.
And I’ve been fascinated ever since. It’s rare I go to bed without watching a bit of MSNBC before heading bedwards.
I’m especially fascinated by their Supreme Court. Currently re-reading
The Brethren by one of the fellas who reported on Watergate and another writer. Covers the 1969-1976 period, and, for someone like me, it’s catnip.
