In my experience it doesn’t matter how polite or how long or short you make your opening message ,Whether you compliment their media say much you like their profile or even talk about the weather
99% of the time the message is ignored The other 1% is a no thanks or even had F*** off before
So “Fancy a chat” is much easier than typing a long winded message to end up with the same response

There In lies the problem! You can’t be bothered!

Now, look at this from their perspective, you’re a complete unknown person to them & you’ve done nothing to separate yourself from everyone else!
Add to that the fact they’ve probably received 50, 100, or more messages exactly like that!

Your message has now just got lost in a sea of blandness.

What incentive? is there for them to respond!

Also helps to read their profile first. Thought my luck was in my when I received a PM saying "I'm really interested in you" , sounds great except it's from a straight male :rofl:

Ah well maybe I'll get a PM from a lady next time.

Ok so I reply to most messages and am polite in doing so, as a female in the scene I get quite a few messages and within the first couple of hours of joining I must have had twenty to get through. I tend to figure out who a person is by the second message but my first thought is to “fancy a chat” is “about what” I think to myself if you’ve just met a complete stranger then your opening words wouldn’t be “fancy a chat” especially when you couldn’t possibly know anything about them. The actual words don’t make any sense to me. Surely you have to have a little more than that? Or maybe not!

You’ve hit the nail on the head there with the actual phrase itself.
Fancy a chat.
This is supposed to be a social site and the forums can really show a lot about a person by the replies and how they behave. Your simple thread for example can actually be a good start for a message if you think about it. Now I know you like shoes and coffee:whistle: that would be my base starter :D
