What would it sound like for a start?
What would you do in 4 mins?

I'm not sure how accurate this is, but I was told once that the sirens on our local volunteer fire station that had been previously used to call the firefighters to a "shout", were now being repurposed to be the nuclear attack warning.

ffs...you narna, they will probably set one off near you too!

In truth, 4 minutes isnt really long enough to do anything, I'd just pray that I was far enough away from a primary or secondary target, and try to get underground, a cellar or similar, although chances of finding one within 4 minutes is pretty remote.
I'd hope to be able to see the nearest flash, so I could calculate the "flash to bang" time, which would tell me how far away it was. Then I'd dredge up the memories of my CBRN Instructors course, and try to remember the calculations for figuring out how big the nuke was, thereby giving me an idea about if I was in the "survival" zone.....or whether I should just bend over, put my head between my legs, and kiss my arse goodbye!

These days, I'm pretty sure we'd get longer than 4 minutes....if it was a launch from the Russkies or the Chinese land-based nukes....but...if it was one of them sneaky subs, and they had got close to the UK...then I dunno what the warning time would be.
