Just what it says on the tin.
Got a question you need expert advice on? Have a query that needs judgement passing upon it?
Want to know next week's lottery numbers?

Ask Baldrick and Kaz for their expert individual opinions.

Baldrick hasn't said anything sensible since 1987 and Kaz is slightly unhinged. We will not accept any responsibility for the inevitable tragic consequences likely to occur from following our advice .

:D  Omm...

Anyway, if say in 10 years time, we could time travel and I wanted to travel back to me now, sat here working on some things and wanted to give myself next week's lottery numbers, would the me who comes to see me from the future already be a millionaire?
Would me seeing me then negate it?
I only want a few quid. Not to be mega rich or anything... nothing involving swinging yachts or stuff like that. Honest. :p x

What's up with the world?

I'm like that kid from The Sixth Sense... "I see assholes, everywhere..."

That's been bugging me too.

Baldrick:- No of course you wouldn't negate it. Basic principle of Time Travel.
If you travel back in time 10 years and give yourself the lottery numbers it would be fine as long as in 10 years time your past self remembers to go back 10 years and give his past self the lottery numbers again (y).

Kaz:- You wouldn't be a millionaire in the future up until you visited the past, then you still wouldn't be a millionaire cos you'd think you were hallucinating or your head would explode at meeting yourself (Kaz's genuine answer).

Makes sense.
But but...
When Hermoine used her time travel dooberry in Harry Potter, Dumbledore stated they cannot see themselves, or basically they're fucked. Now what?

Yes I think you're right there Kaz. :D
Thanks for the pr0 tips both. I'll make a mental note of date/time et al just in case. :tiphat:

(Great replies.. best get your fingers ready as you have a few to answer  :D ) x

No offence Guv but I am basing my answer on some of the greatest scientific minds our planet has ever produced and you are forming a theory based on the works of...................J K Rowling :D

"... would the me who comes to see me from the future already be a millionaire?"

No.

Because the two yous exist in different timelines.

To merge the two creates a paradox and that isn't allowed by the laws of physics.

This is one of the basic problems with time travel - the laws of physics make it impossible to anyone to travel backwards in time before the time machine was created. You can only go forwards (and then back through the future, so to speak) you can't travel backwards in time so situations as described cannot happen.

Oi are you questioning my expert opinion?
I have obviously assumed that travelling back in time is theoretically possible for this scenario. Obviously it's common knowledge that you can go forwards in time by travelling faster than the speed of light :confused::noidy:

*Phew think I got away with that.

Time travel is theoretically possible (only forwards, as discussed) but, as you rightly point out, there are some considerable, certainly insurmountable at present, difficulties in the way of making a time machine. You could send a human 10,000 years into the future and they would only age 1 year... but the amount of energy required is estimated at being greater than all that contained in the Solar System.

Sadly.

Where do you stand on the whole Dark Matter/Dark Energy debate?

Is it possible to unify what we think we see with what we think we know, or are we just back to Ptolemaic epicycles?

Yours in hope...
Baldrick:- Unfortunately with our current technological limitations Dark Matter is difficult to prove yet. I personally believe Dark Matter does exist. An energy that we cannot yet comprehend.

Physics as we know it is based on the rules we know to exist based on our planet but as we expand further into space there's every possibility these rules will change and our opinions too.

Kaz:- Eh? I'm confused....... No

I don't know........... I can produce some impressive energy expenditure after a Friday Night Curry

Perhaps I could bottle it :hmm:

That's cool. I mean, I can't prove it either. But my hunch is dark energy/matter don't exist - it's too much to maintain that 97% of the universe isn't accounted for by the Standard Model, lost down the back of some mahoosive cosmic couch - it think it's more likely that we've just misunderstood something fundamental about the nature of the universe. Or gravity. Some shit like that.

Our mistake is to think our limited view is the correct one - bit like when Galileo worked out that the sun is the centre of the solar system, not the earth. Something really frickin' basic like that...

But I can't prove it.
