There have been videos posted by Americans of people physically attacking Chinese people in America because... they're Chinese. Blaming this on a country is just dumb when it puts ex-pats at risk. It's "from China" most likely because of the stupidly-high density of people allowing viruses to continually mutate.

There were some pretty solid theories that it accidently escaped from a nearby reasearch lab which specialises in virus and containment. It was plausible because the Asian people are (as I understand) particularly susceptible to certain strains of flu, and the type that escaped was one of those kinds. When I write 'escaped' I don't mean intentionally released, but rather accidental.

It was first noted in China but it doesn't mean it originated there, there is no proof except that the first people who were recognised as having covid-19 happened to be Chinese and the "fact" it came from a wildlife market is also suspect as one of the first people found with covid-19 had never visited that market.
