In my teens I decided to have a go at skydiving. In those days we used ex forces double LL chutes. After many jumps I got up to jumping out at 10,000 feet freefall. One day I went out at 10,000 and opened my chute at 2,500 feet only to find that the chute had opened inside out and I was falling rather fast. I decided to try to right the chute instead of pulling the reserve. Silly git! I did manage, but at the same time hit the ground on my ass at speed. I spent many months on my back due to two cracked vertebra and a damaged neck. I still suffer with problems from that mistake.
Bloody hell.. That's scary as.. Well done for keeping your head

erm.... I have worked in Sierra Leone, Colombia, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Afghanistan (in fact I have worked in every Stan) and Somalia......

But I wouldn't say that was particularly dangerous. I did cross a river in Kashmir via a strange cable-car arrangement that upon reflection was a pretty stupid thing to do... (see photo, not me, a stock photo)

In truth, the usual jumping off cliffs, roofs etc that we have all done I am sure. Dangerous? Probably in hindsight..
Mexico city was an experience as was Cairo and Jerusalem during the unrest..

But having over 20k followers on twitter and deciding to go to a social where everyone was drunk and totally off their heads was an experience that I never want to have again.

I can remember all that as clear as yesterday and I can assure you - you will not face the same situation again at any event organised either by us, or on here. Xx

Hmm been thinking about this.. most of my dangerous situations have involved.. my past occupations.
My nose has been broken a few times.
When you have a 14yr old lad who is a lot bigger than you, hurtling down a sprung runway expecting, you to support him in a somersault.. and it goes wrong  BEST feeling ever, that they put their complete trust in their coach.
Secure Mental health units.. have grappled on the floor with the best of em..
Personally... usual motorbike escapades as a kid.. swam in the stupidiest of places..
Rode unbroken horses bareback.. big mistake!!
Rock climbing.. havent we all done things considered dangerous.

As a child I was such a tom boy and would spend lots of time pretending to drive old burnt out rusty cars, how I never got anything I will never know and I have never needed a tetanus jab. Always wanted to climb the many trees in the park but was told no by my mother protective but bloody spoil sport lol. Anyway we had a fence thing in our garden a few feet high just a solitary plank don't know why it was there but it was. This one day I looked at it and decided to jump over it unfortunately I missed quite badly and face planted a hard slabbed area and broke my nose apparently blood everywhere and today I still have the bend in my nose to prove it lol . I know not dangerous just bloody stupid VXX :palm:

So many things more I could personally add to this. I have been stupidly silly over the years. Just didn't have a boundary and know where to draw the line.
I think I've literally faced death 3 times now. One was a seriously close call. How I am here I will never know..
Thinking back apart from dangerous situations, I think two of the most dangerous things I have done was on a motorbike.
Actually there's loads on a bike, but these two were purely idiotic.
1, got completely out of it and rode on the motorway home for what felt about 2 hours, when in fact it was only 20 mins, if you get my meaning.
2, Travelled on a carriageway at 193 mph. The lights and lines became blurs and solid lines. This was on a YZF 1000R otherwise known as an R1
At the time it was immense fun. Looking back now, it was selfish and foolish.

Going along with the daft stuff we have done on bikes, We went on a swinging bikers meet in Dorset. during the day we all went on a ride out with some local swinging bikers to show us the sights but at the end of the day of steady riding the 2 local lads stopped and said the camp site is about 20 miles down this country road so lets all have a race back. and with that they set off like stink down the road followed closely by a guy on a tiger then us 2 up then a ninja behind us. I soon passed the Tiger and set off after the 2 FJR's. I soon realised I was never going to catch them cos they knew the roads really well so decided that if they did not break for the bends they I would go in blind at full tilt at around 135 mph. we did make it back safe and I knew I was in trouble when my Mrs got off the bike when I stopped and never said a word and just walked off. She later said I thought I was gonna die. It really made me think and then 3 weeks later on a meet with much the same group in Wales we did the same thing but this time I rode back fast but not stupid speeds only to find a good friend of ours laying smashed to bits in the road and later died of his injuries. The group disbanded out of respect for him and his wife after that.

Yeah and this is why we need to think.
Sorry to hear about your friend. :(

Not swinging related but I had a friend who was hammering a road and went head on into a car. He survived, but the injuries were horrific. I was with him (both on separate bikes) on the road when it happened and was on my way to see @Pearls - I had to divert and go and tell his missus what had happened to him.
Broken legs, broken arms, ruptured spleen and even a broken jaw. :(

I've done the usual, parachute jump, bungee jump, but the closest I've come to dying was probably a year or so ago when I ..... crossed the road

It was under a bridge and the road curved round the corner so you couldn't really see if any traffic was coming. I took a gamble there wasn't and I was wrong.
Fair play to the driver as he broke hard and I just skipped out the way but I was probably 1 second away from being hit.
Bloody fool - won't be doing that again. I ate in to my supply of good karma that day.

Blimey! Lucky lucky man... Sheesh.
I'm lucky to be here. One incident involved a 5 hour surgery and 4 blood transfusions. I think I had my Karma too.

That sounds incredible close though my friend. Glad it didn't happen and you're here with us. :) (y)

Likewise, that sounds very traumatic. They say you're more likely to die crossing the road than in a plane crash - Basically what they mean is that stupidity is a lot more dangerous than flying
