I have not been into the city centre at night for years I don't even go in the day time. As a single woman in the late 80s I went into town with a couple of friends every Friday night and didn't get too many problems as we stuck to places we knew. Once a bloke thought it was OK to try and dry hump me at the bar once and he soon received a huge slap around the face for doing it. I was sitting at a table in one place we went to waiting for my friends who were getting drinks and this one bloke became a complete pain and wouldn't leave me alone, no matter how many times I told him I wasn't interested luckily my friend saw I was in distress and came over and told him to piss off. Other than that not any real issues I think we were lucky looking back. And I have seen women behave a lot worse than the men at times.
