For example, if the previous song was Tin Soldier by Small Faces, you could follow it with Little Boy Soldiers by the Jam or Stay With Me by The Faces or Toy Soldiers by Martika or Turn Around by Phats and Small. Phats and Small, for example, could then be followed by Zoom by Fat Larry's Band or Turn, Turn, Turn by The Byrds etc.
The link can be as tenuous as you like, but you have to explain it if it's not as obvious as the above songs.

Doesn't have to be a word, even..... any sort of link will do, as long as you explain it e.g. Beautiful South to Housemartins (Link; Paul Heaton)
