Skip the consiparcy theories but following on from the classic alternative acts comment do you believe what you read in the news?
We have many sources of information today but do you think you can trust what you hear and see on the TV or do you think that online newspapers or news channels provide a more balanced view of the world. Maybe you get all your news via Google/Twitter/Facebook etc but can that information source be trusted.
Personally I tend to use a mix of all of these to try to get a balanced view of what is going on out there but can we be sure we really know?

With all the talk lately of false news, I think it would be foolish to believe in everything you read. I've always said a simple phrase to @Pearls about this; 'Don't believe the hype'.

personally I try to find a few different sources before i would believe something. but tabloid papers defiantly not, BBC news used to but not so much any more, FOX no chance, I find if you want news about Britain you are often better to check other country's news on us as they have less of a reason to fabricate the truth.x

Uhm sore point there and one of the reasons I raised this. I personally knew people caught up in the Hillsborough disaster and whilst that paper may have been originally misinformed it never made an effort to get the facts right. Its taken years for people to get justice because of all the misinformation. I will leave it there.

I look at what's happening around me and try to find first hand accounts from my friends around the world. There will always be a bias and I try to see through that, but it's hard.

I have not believed a thing in the papers following this incident. Back in the 80's we used to get the UK papers some 2 days after they came out over here. On this particular day I was sat reading said paper at Jaffa Gate (for those of you that don't know that's old Jerusalem in the Christian district of Israel. The paper carried quite a large news story about a terrorist attack that had taken place now some 3 days earlier. It stated that Jaffa Gate had been blown up and was sporting a photo of the gate stonework blown to pieces. Now either that place had seen a modern day miracle or this was an out and out lie cos it looked just like it did for weeks before. I have also witnessed am Arab attempt to blow up the holiday resort of Eilat with a rather large bomb hidden within a boat and aimed at the beach then abandoned to do its horrid deed. The Arabs that carried out the attack fled to Jordan and got welcomed with open arms by the Army/Police. Fortunately the idiots did not know about the sandbank created by the Israeli's some years before and the attack came to nothing more that a rather spectacular show out in the red sea. No mention of this was ever published in the papers ever. Please don't think this is pro either side as I have enjoyed my life on both sides of the Red Sea and was always treated with kindness by both Arab and Jew alike

Haven't trusted the news for years. Sometimes think we're turning into Mulder and Scully (maybe not her as she's too trusting!) and believe the government is feeding us half-truths, as well as the slanted news from the various media of all persuasions. The BBC admits it has what it calls its "narrative" which determines what it puts on and what it ignores. If you listen to or watch BBC radio news then turn over to independent TV or radio you usually get two completely different sets of stories. BBC2.jpg

Don't believe FA written in newspapers, the more they sell the more money they make, so things kinda get exaggerated to sell more papers.

Don't generally read the papers, but if I do its usually a broadsheet. I always give the tabloids a wide berth. I'm naturally sceptical and critical of any story I hear. As for news, I look at three or four sources to determine the truth. Sky news, CNN, BBC (albeit warily), Huffington Post.
But generally I don't believe everything that's thrown at me.

(Looking at you, Daily Mail :cautious:)
