I just have a bog standard DSLR, would love some telescopic lenses, but they are so expensive.

Spoken to zeebs.. he was helpful.. even more confused haha. XIf you're starting out, something like the Canon 1100D would be good.

You were more useful.. x
Hope he was more useful than I!
Thankyou so much guys. XxxWe both have Canons, really like the brand which has never let us down. We have a couple of IXUSs which are easy to use, compact and do everything we want. They keep on bringing new IXUS models out and they range from very cheap to more costly; there's even an underwater one now.
Latest (less than a year old) and current favourite camera is a Canon Powershot G7X, has all the specialist features anyone could need and very compact, but gives better pictures than our SLR. All our cameras can take videos too.
Just google 'camera reviews' and you'll get the Photography Blog and other sites, full of great reviews. Good luck!
Thanks lovely. XxThere is no simple answer. I have a few pentax and nicon all are good. It will depend on how much you want to pay for starters. I would suggest you go to a camera shop, most will allow to handle the camera and explain all the different features, some you may not want. You might also want additional lens etc. So try a shop, explain what you want the camera for and a good shop will take the time to help you find the right kit for you.
As much as that is true , mobile phones will never produce the quality of image that a half decent DSLR will ..Unfortunately it's not the camera that takes a great picture but the person behind the lens.
We have all stood and looked at a great photo that has captured our imagination and never once asked ourselves what camera did they use!
We only ever use a mobile phone and Stephen is always getting compliments about his pictures..

I didn't say that !!!! It's just image quality is better with a proper camera ... all mine are phone pictures that I post nothing more than it's convenient doesn't have to be done via a PC ...So you are saying that my photos are crap?

I would agree 99.99%of what I take is crap ... even the 0.01% is worthless to any one but me ... a great photographer or artist is great for a reason ...View attachment 23706
Joking aside
A crap photo is still crap no matter the camera.
A good photo is always a good photo no matter the camera
It's the eye
The subject
The connection
The photographer
That makes the picture..
Having the most expensive paint brushes doesn't make you an artist
I have a great friend in Mexico and all his photos are shot on a mobile. they sell at $300 for A number print.
I have several
His art goes for more and is painted on cardboard
See this one he did for my birthday

Sure you'll have a reply but it's fact that image quality is everything to pros that's why they spend tens of thousands equipment to take those pictures and not rely on a mobile ...
