You see a top for £97 but you don't have any cash, so you borrow £50 from your mam and £50 from your dad which = £100.
You buy the top and get £3 change, then you decide to give mam a £1, dad a £1 and keep a £1 for yourself.
You now owe mam £49 and dad £49 which = £98 plus your £1 makes £99..
Where is the missing £1..

You borrow £50 from mum and £50 from dad and then gave them back £1 each so in total you borrowed from them is £49 each.
So £49 +£49= £98

You bought the top for £97 and kept £1 for yourself
So £97 + £1 = £98

Arrggghhhhh :cry::cry:

You only ever borrowed £49 from each parent (£50 less the £1 returned) so the total borrowed = £98, not £100

The top cost £97 plus £1 you pocketed = £98

So there isn't a missing £2 or missing £1, or 50p, not even a penny, nowt, nothing, never was, never will be.
It's the way the question is worded, not the math.
