Ive only just discovered Sundays are excluded from the lent period, otherwise it would be 46 days instead of the usual 40 days/40 nights xx

Only time we were allowed to break lent was paddies day

Lent officially ends on Holy Thursday. That is when the "Triduum", great three Days of holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday occur leading to Easter.
But is is complex and based around the liturgical seasons and is 40-days (excluding Sundays) from Ash Wednesday. Some western churches finish abstinance on Holy Saturday
