Ive only just discovered Sundays are excluded from the lent period, otherwise it would be 46 days instead of the usual 40 days/40 nights xx

But is is complex and based around the liturgical seasons and is 40-days (excluding Sundays) from Ash Wednesday. Some western churches finish abstinance on Holy Saturday
