This curvy lady has appeared on the front cover of Cosmopolitan but there is controversy surrounding this with people claiming the advertising of an obese model is no different to the advertising of size zero models and is sending out the wrong message.
Is this picture empowering — or unhealthy?

Yes I agree to a certain extent but when I see models who are starved to go on the catwalk and have to comply with size zero or below rules I think it's very unhealthy, I also agree that this is no different and we all know where obesity can lead too, it's extreme on both sides, why can't they have simply healthy size in the middle.

I’d go for ‘empowering’ if I had to pick one. If they’re going to carry on incredibly thin models, then why not larger women?

But - and come on, you knew there was a ‘but’ coming - the purpose of fashion magazines is both to sell more magazines and to sell fashion.

So, whether or not people purport to like it, whether or not the publishers are claiming a moral or ethical stand, both of those are entirely secondary to ‘does this increase or decrease sales?’ If sales drop through the floor on this issue, it won’t happen again. If sales aren’t damaged then it will.

I wouldn’t say it’s dangerous as some people are that size due to other factors not just over eating ... and the same goes the other way being underweight isn’t always about not eating .... think promotion should cover the whole spectrum .... perhaps a certain lady here has an opinion on the subject ....

I see danger with size zero, girls living off leaves just to stay on the catwalk, I also see women oversized on purpose to be on the catwalk, these both can cause health issues from bone disease to heart problems x

ok so this is one of my daughters she at 18(in black outfit) looked amazing then she started reading magazines looking at skinny models within a few months she dropped weight to the point of becoming bulimic
So with the article above are we then looking at obesity being the future norm

To me it is a nice change to see someone plus size on a magazine, i don't actually think it is encouraging obesity either as i think the publisher's aim was simply to say beauty comes in all sizes.

I am all for plus size and been a size 18 myself for a few years on and off but I do agree 21stone is not a good role model, I have a sister who is the same size and has many issues due to size, I believe in curves but we have to be realistic that size zero and 21 stone models are not showing to youngsters is the way to be

Hmmmm. Don't like going over my past but my ex wife was size 20 to 22. Untrustworthy and not at all the right woman for me (Linda is so much the right choice now) but for all her faults damn sexy. Some guys like the curves, personally I've found a rampant hard on has proved my appreciation of ladies from curvy to athletic and ripped even if I didn't think them my type. That said female body builders and androgynous girls with boylike figures aren't for me. As for covers and adverts? About time we celebrated gorgeous women for how attractive they are not IF they are size 0 to 6....

Ah! See this is where I have issues, promoting her saying she's sexy BECAUSE she's big is bad, saying she's sexy REGARDLESS of her size is different. Weight is a health thing not a looks thing as far as I'm concerned.

Couldn’t agree more, with the additional element that even if you’re ‘into’ a particular body shape/size, doesn’t determine, nor even suggest, that you’ll definitely find a specific someone of that shape/size attractive or sexy.
