A brilliant album and fantastic song! They really are top notch.
Robert Smith is of course the founder and main composer/songwriter and his style, lyrics and expression is simply genius.

On the subject of The Cure - Boys Don't Cry album, from 1980 - great stuff - many good memories of listening to that in my mid teens

My teens were spent listening to The Cure, Billy Bragg, Echo and the Bunnymen (I'd still *do* Ian McCulloch now!), Japan, Simple Minds, Depeche Mode, Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, Siouxsie and the Banshees -and The Smiths. I still have stuff from most of those on my ipod nowadays.

The first song I ever fell in love with and which stopped me in my tracks was Ghost Town by The Specials in 1981 when I was still at primary school. Still in my all time top 10 34 years later!

Ahhh this is one phenomenal track, really is.. And even now still so highly rated!
Mrs A aka @Pearls will be more in tune with you on most of that, could only click with *some* of the early 80's stuff..
Some very good bands listed there though Mrs Pink! @mrandmrspink INXS I liked, they were pretty good. Poor bugger though eh?

For me the penny dropped more from 87 onwards when house came alive and it progressed to rave etc.
Still, some very good artists/bands.. x

INXS were good, yes- but I preferred NZ bands such as DD Smash, The Mockers and Split Enz - although I did also (post SE) (still do) like Crowded House.

Never really got house and rave stuff - I stuck with bands like the above and James (boy can Tim Booth still move - saw him last year and this year) and then Mr got into REM in 1989 - and that was it for the next 20 years.....!!

Now another great band there - REM.. But sadly I found them very monotonous towards the end.
Crowded House good too..
But yeah I went the metal/rock & dance way really.
20 years...

I love any goth/emo rock esp. with female vocals. Also, pretty much any trance/ambient electro, with emphasis on goa and psy trance. Some personal favorites are Marylin Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Evanescence, Skinny Puppy, Collide, Claire Voyant (dream pop), Astral Projection, Bypass Unit, Zero One, amoung many others.

This is my favorite song from my favorite band of all time. I first saw it in 1993 on MTV's "120 Minutes". I own all their stuff.
