Watching the video won't change anything . I can't turn back time . I won't be able to alter anything . There is nothing I can do .
Therefore why waste my time and energy worrying about something I have zero control over ..
Pointless . Hence I don't care
Xx
A council of despair!

But you are wrong that there's nothing to be done. ;)

Ah I'm getting it now.. They will find I like 3 people.. and porn and vaping :D
Good luck getting political leverage out of that.
I have always mistrusted FB and any site I have to add too many details to so the details I add are fictions

It's not FB per se that's been caught out - Cambridge Analytica developed various apps that do silly things - online personality tests, that kinda nonsense - but the way they worked was that once you agreed to the terms and condition, the apps would harvest all your personal data, clicks, likes and dislikes AND THEN hoovered up the data of all your friends and family too.

It only needed a relatively small take up of a few thousand people and suddenly millions of peoples' data was available to CA.

So whether or not you actually signed up to one of these things is irrelevant. You might still have been affected.

FB has been accused of being slow to respond to this, not being party to it in the first place.

I get all that but Neil or myself don't use FB that much i only use it for vaping groups and Neil does the same and he uses it very rarely and as for them apps i cottoned on to what they were getting at months and months back because it asks if you want to share it and i say no, Neil doesn't bother with the apps. I don't really bother posting on my profile as i got long ago that ppl on there were generally arse holes not everyone no but the majority. Went on this morning to see if anyone had posted the information in the OP thread and nothing just goes to show they are a bunch of brain dead idiots :D

Quite.

No Facebook = no cry.

But if enough people are stupid, hoodwinked or just don't care... then Cambridge Analytica could continue stealing data, engaging in spreading fake news and attempting to subvert the democratic process.

It pisses us off when the Russians try to do such things.

It should piss us off that a US/UK company is caught doing the same.

imo

It all comes down to the most repeated lie in the world:

"I have read and agree to the terms and conditions."

After a lifetime in gov comm;s was hoping for more of a better retirement ..lol.. follow SCL group who manipulate public opinion. I for one would worry more about IMSI-catcher and meta data collection.
Facebook if you are a user and share you info well good luck, data collection is not all about site hacks most is given freely by you ticking the "I AGREE BUTTON"

Yeah you should be perfectly fine then. If you're not using specific apps and doing much rich content on there, or using it for say pro government stuff etc then it will be fine. What they will have access to (if they have your info) is things like DOB, email, geolocale and things like that. Nothing can come of that though in reality. :) x

What the biggest issues here are, not only targeted misinformation but also I.D theft/fraud, opportunities for smear campaigns, I.D data harvesting, possibilities for blackmail/extortion and things like fake news etc.
All in all, it's really not good news for heavy users. It's also not good news for anyone who works online.

Most if not all sites will harvest data to a degree and use analytics to provide key things/subject matter/ads. But this is on a scale which can be devastating in the right hands - for instance, let's say for example that Russia hacked CA... imagine what they could do with all of that analytical data!

Will it turn back time and restore everything to the way it was before they cloned my details .. Exactly .
Can't solve my problems.. Not interested unless they are going to pay me millions

I think you'll find the issue is bigger than you.

It affects governments and large corporations and how they interact. :)

I’ve always been wary of Facebook knowing too much about everyone. It’s a scary thing that many of us freely give this information away without a second thought to the hands it may end up in.

Having discussed this with my 11 year old it seems her generation is a little more savvy when it comes to the internet and information. They’ve grown up with the mantra ‘don’t share anything on the internet’. It’s time we practised what we preach.

Yes this is what China are good at. Eavesdropping and data harvesting. Remembering, they're a huge Communist state. Mind blowing stuff what they have and do over there.
The Chinese have the resources and political will to trial this technology.

Before long they'll perfect it and sell it back to us and we'll use it to combat the menace of terrorism, or some other nonsense.

It's better than the tech they tried and failed to introduce on the London Underground

As an ancillary point, imagine if the Chinese government, for instance, had a Cambridge Analytica style operation...

What then?

Agreed and it we will be told - "it's in our own interest of safety and security that we watch, monitor and manage all you do in all communicae"
1984 and Big Brother has nothing on this. In fact, anyone would be foolish to think we're not already watched on and listened to.
Everything we do is already monitored one way or the other. 100%.

We're well in the shit, hence my hypothesis of say Russia buying this data. Can you imagine the ramifications from that!? I think I'd move to Oz.

This is the wet dream of 1984's Big Brother.

I think I should become a hacker and get into computer security... but then I might wind up poisoned with an horrific nerve-agent in some sleepy English city
