Its hard I know. I rarely use the chat rooms. I tend to get involved in the forums, people get to know you and respond. Then gradually work your way in to the chat rooms. By then people know you and are more willing to chat.The thing is Kev, nobody seems to want to give you an 'in'
In order to build up friendship and trust, they've got to allow you to get to know them, It's the same in the chatrooms, you go in, say hello, one person MAY say hello, then that's it and the regular crew just banter between themselves, and it feels like standing at a bar listening to a group of people talking and trying to get into the convo, which you wouldn't do, i dunno, i'm sorry for coming across as a negative Nigel :-/

To block or not block? If one disagrees with another, should blocking be an option purely based on opines or on reasons of incompatibility.
I've blocked quite a few actually, mainly to prevent them seeing our content. (Lots of enemies, can't think as to why lol)
But what does it take, for you to want to block someone on here for whatever reason(s) you may have?
For me, I have blocked peeps who have been damnright disrespectful to my wife. Some I have ignored. But, she's still my wife. Say some of the things she's dealt with on here, to her in front of me in a pub....enough said.
But online is okay aye?
So ultimately, do peeps block because of indifference or simply not agreeing to disagree, I.E pass each other by with no concern over whom or what?
That’s a shame. Are you certain they’re still here? We’ve seen a few accounts come and go over the last few days....Seen a new profile on Friday but couldn't wish them a welcome as I was working. Went to welcome them yesterday but it said profile not available but have seen new media and reactions so I'm guessing it means I've been blocked. If that is the case I'm fuming. Makes me wonder if its worth welcoming new members. Why block someone who just looks at your profile, not even sent a message. Do people have such a high opinion of themselves that they join a social site and block people for no reason. Could have stayed on that other site to be treated like that.

I think the problem is people coming from other sites where that site has a toxic culture, so they have a defensive attitude from the get go!Maybe accidentally done maybe not.
Sometimes it may be that they are interested just shy, especially if they are new to this lifestyle. I do look at profiles but not make contact as I am quite shy plus after the last site I was on it wasn't worth trying to contact members as they have their own little groups and the response I usually got was often rude and offensive. It does knock your confidence eventually.The block option is one of a number of tools that the site provides to help us enjoy it. I dont block arbitrarily, but if someone gives us reason, then it happens. Mostly people are pretty good on here, we have only blocked a small number due to disagreements, we mainly block if someone views our profile (especially if its more than once) but doesnt contact us, we take that as a sign that they arent interested, so we remove the possibility that we will contact them and offend them at some future point.

Fair point, myself personally am fine once the ice has been broken. This site has been far more welcoming than the last site I used which helps newbies. There is a very good Ted talk where the speaker explains that if you put the same person into different environments they will adopt that environment! Meaning they have been forced to defend themselves for so long they have become defensive, and now that is how they think everyone is! Given time they will see that Social swinging isn’t like that in the whole!
The more time they spend on here their attitude will begin to change & hopefully they will become less defensive!

Or whether you don’t want them to see yours!Given that blocking breaks context in threads, I’m wondering if a total block in ALL aspects is necessary (as it’s always been) or perhaps it should be amended to show posts with a link to reveal.

True. Circumstantial.....I guess it depends whether you’re blocking a person because you don’t want to see their posts! Or whether you don’t want them to see yours!
