Facebook Data Leak And Farming/harvesting

Why you really need to get off FB

Cambridge Analytica, a British firm, has been caught out with over 50 million users' profiling, analytics, data, information, friends information and more data than you can throw a stick at.

You've probably heard something about it in the news, but do you really know what it means and most of all, what it means for you?

They harvested data and information using an API and their very clever (it really is) technology.
They (Cambridge Analytica, or for this thread CA) promised to FB that they anonymised the data and destroyed it, after FB execs requested it.
However, it seems CA actually sold the data to 3rd parties, which is a practice frowned upon by FB in a big way.

They have broken laws and created a massive issue over exploitation, I.D theft, personal data leak and so much more.
As some of you know, we don't have any FB accounts after deleting them a good few years ago. But we use them for the site.
Are you on there? Do you know what's happened with your information?
Do you understand what they've done & what has actually happened?

If so will you remain on there or shut your account down including all associated data?
Over to you...

It means if you are on there, all of your data including personal data and preferences etc, (potentially) is in the hands of someone else. x
Ah well .....
Stephen uses it more than me and only for business... What sort of personal info?
God imagine if it named everyone I've slept with... How big is the database?
Lol

It has harvested ALL information, even down to personal choices about pretty much everything. Shopping, food, clothing etc. Everything you have done on there has been leaked (potentially).
I say potentially because you don't know if they have your info.
Regarding the rest, well what can I say. You're a busy lady xx :ninja:

Yes. No. Well, sort of. A bit.
I know, vaguely, how they should be using our data, I know how our data could potentially be wrongly used, I know that CA are an incredibly shady organisation, I know that this information and much more like it, has been exploited for rather dodgy political ends, but I must admit, I find it all a bit mind-blowing.

I'll try and explain a bit more tomorrow as it's party night here in Swansea.
Not that I know that much, but I think I know enough to explain it in detail.

Sadly it's not just that, it's also anything you've downloaded and used any FB API along with it. x
Oh no .... People will no where I get My viagra......

Honestly I don't care.... It has taken Stephen over a year .. Not exaggerating . To finally figure out how to connect the WiFi range extender .
Being honest I would still be trying to figure it out

See, this is why the world is in the shit lol

In a nutshell: the Cambridge Analytica case encapsulates all of the problems of corporations working for governments – at a global scale, with added cyberweapons. And in the middle of it all are the public – our intimate family connections, our “likes”, our crumbs of personal data, all sucked into a swirling black hole that’s expanding and growing and is now owned by a politically motivated billionaire.

The Facebook data is out in the wild.

Have a nice day

It is. That first link you posted, I had to re-read so many bits of that article, for reasons of what-the-actual-fuck?
I don't know how effective Cambridge Analytica's methods are but I do know that ever since Obama's grass-roots, internet-driven campaign of 2008 political parties and governments have been trying to harness the power of t'internet. Largely with very ham-fisted results.

What CA have done is marry targeted advertising techniques and big data gained illicitly to attempt to 'nudge' public opinion in the political arena in the US.

As I say, I don;t know how actually successful they were - Trump can be seen as a reflection of voter dissatisfaction with established elites, economic worries &c &c and I wonder if CA was any more effective than, say, the Russian government in ushering in a new era of chaos.

But politicians are willing to pay for it, and corporations are in hot pursuit.

Shh... watch the vid
Watching the video won't change anything . I can't turn back time . I won't be able to alter anything . There is nothing I can do .
Therefore why waste my time and energy worrying about something I have zero control over ..
Pointless . Hence I don't care

Never had a sickbook account but data collection and analytics has always been with us and the more we use online services the less anonymous we become.
