I have of course heard of them, know of them and read their works.
I ask because you write in American English which makes me also think about the way we normally are: keep calm and carry on. Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way.
This.... how can I say.... irrational? Response is not typical British calm level headedness. You may think I’m not right with this, but I see that you don’t have that calmness and level headed ness we’re renowned for.
I cannot fathom why you’d see a serious viral outbreak, pandemic, as a way of governments closing ranks and squeezing us with control and power. I find that an odd suggestion given the nature of this pandemic. But that’s just me.
There are many tinfoil hat wearers who believe the govt is out to enslave us all. the "wake up, sheeple" movement and all. It's hugely popular in the southern bible belt states of the USA for example, along with a fanatical possession of guns!

I know the numbers look huge but in context with the world population they are low , 14 billion Chinese, 2k odd unfortunately died but in that same period how many were born ??? .... how many will be born after this blows over ...
it’s bad yes but I do think the hysteria has been fuelled by the media the restrictions on movement to help the NHS cope are justified as it wouldn’t cope with a huge influx of patients, look at bad winters they are always reporting the hospital are full and at breaking point ... they compare this to the war , it’s nothing like it ,people now are to selfish and would never have coped with a war time Britain .... Panic buying back then would never have happened...
My Dad is 84 years old , he’s not panicking he’s not worried ,just pissed off at the way this is reported and the way people are acting , will it stop him getting out to get what he needs .... No won’t happen .

Dealing with the elderly sucks. Me! Cooking for the neighbours  Bless em but they have no idea. The thing is what is making me so upset is not seeing my mam. I have to get her a modern phone to FaceTime, she still has an old Nokia:cool: she thinks talking on the phone and looking through the window is the same thing:love:

Not funny when im one of the people who work in a spoons , the 80% wage which we will get , wont cover my bills yet im not entitled to any form of help because i earn £2,10p a week over what the government says i can live on ,this as been calculated on my past working wage and not on what i will get now while our pubs are closed which in reality is going to be longer than a few weeks

It's just a joke about about the toilets. I knew it wouldn't take long before someone tried to make more of something I said.

Hahaha I also lost fun after hearing that I would've a "let the old die" and "you don't like the country" attitude.

You only hear such nonsense anonymously behind the keyboard on the net, no one has ever said that to my face and I've been living in the UK since 2000 and talk to a lot of people in clubs, pubs or in my public live .

To be fair, my wife would say the same to your face. Behind a keyboard or not. She’s very straight talking. It’s not a nasty criticism though so don’t take it as so.
Someone will always find offence in something. Just a sign of the times.

And people are saying that teachers have it easy, that they're sat at home for the foreseeable future doing jack all, when the truth is schools are open. Teaching staff, support staff, admin staff, catering staff and admin staff are still in work to teach and provide support for vulnerable children and children of key workers. Also, providing online work with resources, activities, reading material and supporting those children at home. Whilst providing meals and some teachers putting their hand in their own pockets to ensure that those children with very little have something. As well as ensuring the safeguarding and welfare of all children on their roll. Don't forget, the wellbeing of staff members are also being supported because those staff also have children and other people to support.

However, after all this I can still laugh when I see memes of teachers with their feet up laughing at the parents dealing with their own kids, or other silly memes and videos of people using toilet roll as currency or planting it, or putting them in bouquets of mother's day flowers.

It's a shit time. Everyone is in the same boat, we can only have a giggle at our own expense and make the best of a bad situation.

I agree, Pearls is quite the straight talker, but a good level argument (not a fight) between friends is healthy, it levels out where we are and who we are, we all can't have the same opinion and that's fine, as long as we accept that and respect it. Just the same way that someone finds something funny that may be offensive to others, or just not funny to others.

And remember children, we are all different and individual, just like everyone else ?

As a former school teacher,

- people are saying that teachers have it easy,
- they're sat at home for the foreseeable future doing jack all,

This is said every half-term, end-of-term and summer holiday as well. The truth is those people are marking work, creating displays, planning extra-curricular activities they're forced to do, lesson planning, reading the changes to the curriculum to ensure your child learns what they need to and preparing resources. I worked about 14 hours a day, 6 days a week. You can't ever do too much when you're a teacher. I had to leave because I was burning myself out!

- to teach and provide support for vulnerable children and children of key workers.
- Also, providing online work with resources, activities, reading material and supporting those children at home. Whilst providing meals and some teachers putting their hand in their own pockets to ensure that those children with very little have something.
- As well as ensuring the safeguarding and welfare of all children on their roll.
- Don't forget, the wellbeing of staff members are also being supported because those staff also have children and other people to support.

This is pretty much every day for a teacher, especially the putting their hand in their own pocket. I didn't know a good teacher who didn't do it.

There's a saying in teaching that at parent's evening, you only see the parents you don't need to. I'm sure it isn't these parents who are creating all these memes, but the loutish parents with loutish kids who don't understand respect / or have the emotional intelligence. Facebook is full of such people bitching about anything just for attention. Ironically, their kids often turn out to be more understanding than such parents!

I never had a problem with kids, even in a tough inner-city school in a rough area where the kids were considered under-priviledged once they learn you're there for them, and not because you have to be there, so I think the kids will be glad to be in a school setting. (and there's probably more class-video watching / computer time going on in some schools than usual!)

This is really, really becoming serious.

It always has been , but few people chose to believe it. :( It takes people dying to get attention. The govt isn't announcing billions of pounds of support for nothing. It's going to get a lot worse, and just like in other countries, it'll be at the stage where doctors have to choose who to let die because there are not enough ventilators / beds / medicine / equipment.

Like I said earlier, all sites should disable the ability to post / advertise meets at the bare minimum!

The biggest problem, which in my opinion is causing this to become worse, is people are ignoring the governments instructions.

Bloody selfish some people are, most of us are doing as the Government asked us..there’s always the idiots???
Absolutely. Have seen photos today of swathes of people down in places like Eastbourne, South End etc because it’s Mother’s Day.
Also masses of people flooding Tesco’s. It’s mental. They’re causing more deaths.
